Frequently asked questions
How does this ARK taming calculator work?
Total torpor uses the exact formula from the ARK wiki's creature statistics: base torpor × (1 + 6% per level above 1). Sedatives are counted with the wiki's verified values — Narcotic +40 torpor over 8 seconds, Narcoberry +7.5 over 3 seconds, Bio Toxin +80 over 16 seconds — including the rule that torpor does not fall while a sedative is still rising.
Which creatures have full food amounts?
Rex, Raptor, Argentavis, Giganotosaurus and Sarco have complete food tables taken from their ARK wiki Taming Food tables (for example, a level 150 Rex needs 17 Exceptional Kibble and about 36 minutes, with no sedatives). Their amounts scale to other levels with the affinity growth those same tables show. For the other 50 creatures the dataset has verified torpor, diet, preferred kibble and food values, so the calculator gives exact torpor plus a sedative plan for your expected tame time instead of inventing food counts.
What does "depletion class estimate" mean?
How fast a creature loses torpor is printed on the wiki only in each creature's own taming table. The five fully-verified creatures use their real published depletion series; the others are placed in the depletion class their verified relatives fall into (small creatures ≈0.3 torpor/s at level 1, large predators ≈0.73/s) and the result is labelled an estimate. Whichever class applies, the torpor total itself is always exact.
Why does the preferred kibble matter so much?
Each creature has a preferred kibble tier (from the ARK wiki's kibble pages) and also accepts any higher tier. Preferred kibble has a food value of 80 and gives far more taming progress per bite than raw meat (value 50), while a wrong, lower-tier kibble gives only 1/8 of the progress — so kibble is almost always the fastest, highest-effectiveness choice.
