Frequently asked questions

How do Nether coordinates work?

The Nether is scaled 8:1 against the Overworld: divide Overworld X and Z by 8 to get the matching Nether coordinates, or multiply Nether coordinates by 8 to go back. The Y (height) coordinate does not scale — it stays the same.

Why did my portal spawn in the wrong place?

If no existing portal is close to the exact converted coordinates, the game generates a new one nearby — which may then steal the link. The game searches within 128 blocks in the Nether (1,024 Overworld blocks) for a portal to link to, so building at the exact converted spot keeps pairs linked.

Does the calculator round the coordinates?

It floors the divided coordinates to whole blocks, matching how the game itself converts your position when you step through a portal. The exact division is shown too, so you can see how close to a block border you are.
