Frequently asked questions

How are IVs calculated from stats?

Since Generation 3, a stat is ⌊(2×Base + IV + ⌊EV÷4⌋) × Level ÷ 100⌋ + 5, multiplied by the nature modifier (×1.1, ×1.0 or ×0.9); HP uses + Level + 10 instead and ignores natures. This calculator runs every IV from 0 to 31 through that formula and reports which ones produce your observed stat. Example: a level 50 Garchomp with a neutral nature showing 183 HP and 150 Attack has 30–31 IVs in both stats.

Why do I get a range instead of one number?

At lower levels several IVs round to the same stat value, so a range is the honest answer. The range narrows as the Pokémon levels up — at level 100 most stats pin down to one or two IVs. Checking the same Pokémon at two different levels and intersecting the ranges narrows it further.

What does "no IV matches" mean?

The observed stat is impossible for that species with the level, nature and EVs entered — usually a mistyped stat, the wrong nature, or EVs you forgot the Pokémon had earned. Clear the EVs to 0 only if you are sure it has never battled; even a few EVs shift the result.

Which Pokémon and natures are supported?

All 25 natures (from PokéAPI data, including the five neutral ones) and 579 fully-evolved and standalone species from Generations 1–9. Pre-evolutions and alternate formes are not in the dataset — for a pre-evolved Pokémon, check the evolved form's page in game first or use its evolved stats after evolving.
